Welcome
Hi, I'm Alan, a musician/educator based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. I play and teach many different types of stringed instruments. My passion is fingerstyle acoustic guitar. I work to achieve a form of music making that is playful and soulful; kind of like a waking dream.
I teach out of both Long and McQuade in Courtenay, BC and through my studio in my home with my partner of 10 years, Leslie and our 2 dogs Soli and Samba. Sign up for a consultation for lessons here. I perform at weddings, restaurants, pubs, gatherings, markets, graduation ceremonies, as background music or as a featured musician. I also have a few musicians that I can contact to fill out my sound. If you are looking to book me click here.
Have a look around my site, you'll find sheet music and other resources for the musically curious.
I was educated at Vancouver Island University and hold a Jazz Performance Certificate (the first years of their diploma program, when I attended they didn't offer a full fledged degree). Although I primarily perform acoustic fingerstyle, I can teach classical to punk and I grew up thrashing to lots of metal so if you want to learn how to shred on an electric, I'm also your guy. I also teach Bass, Mandolin, Banjo, Music Theory, Ukelele and if you have something interesting with strings, let's talk! I have the theory and can work it out.
Have a brilliant day.
Alan
